Dhanteras Shubh Muhurat
Dhanteras, also known as Dhan Trayodashi, commemorates Lord Vishnu’s reunion with his wife Lakshmi. Why do we celebrate Dhanteras?
The term ‘Dhan’ means ‘wealth,’ and ‘Teras’ means ’13th,’ hence it is known as Dhanteras. Diwali begins with Dhanteras, an auspicious festival in which people celebrate the gods of riches and prosperity.
Lord Dhanavantari and Dhanteras
The Devas and Asuras were two factions of gods in Hindu mythology that fought for the sovereignty of the Kshira Sagara, or cosmic ocean. The Samudra Manthan (the churning of the cosmic ocean) witnessed the formation of the Halahala (poison) and fourteen Ratnas during this period (jewels). The Ratnas were eight celestial creatures that assisted Lord Vishnu in protecting the earth. Lord Dhanvantari was one of the Ratnas, bearing a Kalash filled with the celestial nectar of immortality (Amrit). Lord Vishnu is a prominent god in many cultures, and he is widely venerated for his healing abilities.
